Important Ideas
equality
The Declaration of Independence says, “All men are created equal.” This does not mean that all people are the same. It means that they have the same rights (life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness).
The U.S. Constitution wrote “equality” into the law. Its 14th Amendment declares that every person is entitled to “equal protection of the laws.”
