Ideals and Realities
The soldiers at the Boston Massacre shot unarmed civilians who, at worst, had thrown snowballs. What happened to the soldiers?
What is the reality?
They were tried for murder and found not guilty. They had two American lawyers, Josiah Quincy Jr. and John Adams. Adams strongly supported separation from Britain and the Patriot cause in the American Revolution. He served as a delegate to the First and Second Continental Congresses. He nominated George Washington to be the commander in chief of the Continental Army. He later went on to be vice president to Washington and the second president of the United States. Yet he also believed the soldiers deserved a fair trial.
