liberty
The Declaration of Independence states that everyone has certain “unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Liberty is freedom. You have the right to do what you want. The only limit on your freedom is that you may not harm others. You must give others the same liberty.
The American Heritage Dictionary defines liberty as “The right and power to act, believe, or express oneself in a manner of one’s own choosing.”
The U.S. Constitution mentions the word “liberty” several times.
In the Preamble, the Constitution says that one of its purposes is to “secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity (future).”
The Fifth Amendment to the Constitution protects “life, liberty, or property.”
The 14th Amendment also protects “life, liberty, or property.”
